World Mismanages 52 Million Tons of Plastic Waste per Year

A fifth of the world's plastic waste is never managed properly. A University of Leeds study in Nature puts the total at 52.1 million tons dumped or open-burned each year, about 7.6 kg per person. India leads with 9.3 million tons, ahead of Nigeria, Indonesia and China.
