WHO declares global emergency over Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in DRC and Uganda
The WHO has declared a global public health emergency over an Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Unlike the more common Zaire strain, there are no approved vaccines or treatments for Bundibugyo.
The WHO declared a public health emergency of international concern over an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda caused by the Bundibugyo virus. The DRC reports 125 confirmed cases and over 900 suspected cases across Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. Uganda has nine confirmed cases. No approved vaccine exists for this Ebola strain; a candidate from Oxford and the Serum Institute of India could enter trials in two to three months.
