The US Army has awarded Lockheed Martin $LMT a contract modification worth about $8.4 billion to expand production of the Precision Strike Missile, defence-blog.com reported. The modification, signed on 23 June, raises the total value of the PrSM program to roughly $13.3 billion and runs through September 2032. The Precision Strike Missile is a surface-to-surface weapon built for the HIMARS and M270 launcher families. Two PrSM rounds fit in the same pod that previously held a single ATACMS missile, doubling the number of precision strikes available from each launcher without modifying the vehicle. The Increment One version reaches beyond 499 km, compared with roughly 300 km for the most capable ATACMS variants. The contract covers increased production, early operational capability assets, follow-on production and obsolescence management, with work carried out at Lockheed facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.
