UN: 15,280 civilians killed or injured in Ukraine in the first eight months of 2026
The UN says 15,280 civilians were killed or injured in Ukraine from January to August 2026, 55% more than in the same period of 2025. UN rights chief Volker Türk presented the figures in Geneva on October 2.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk told the Human Rights Council in Geneva on October 2, 2026 that 15,280 civilians were killed or injured in Ukraine during the first eight months of 2026. That is 55% more than in the same period of 2025 and an average of more than 400 civilians every week over 34 weeks. According to UN monitoring data reported by RBC-Ukraine, at least 2,222 civilians were killed and 13,058 injured from January to August. Glide bombs killed or injured nearly 2,500 civilians in that period, mostly in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia.
