On the morning of September 4, 2026, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck two industrial facilities in Sterlitamak, in Russia's Bashkortostan Republic, more than 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) from the Ukrainian border, according to local reports and social media footage. One target, the Avangard Federal State Enterprise, manufactures explosives, ammunition and military ordnance, is part of Russia's state-owned Rostec conglomerate, and appears on international sanctions lists. The other, the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant, produces aviation fuel, synthetic rubber and other materials used by Russia's military-industrial complex, and is owned by the Roskhim chemical holding. OSINT monitors circulated footage of Ukrainian FP-1 drones over the city, and local residents reported a series of explosions. The petrochemical plant has been hit repeatedly since November 2025, including strikes in January, April and August 2026.
