Russian Shahed attack drones now face a defender that flies itself. Ukrainian developer F-Drones has released test footage of LITAVR, a copter-type interceptor drone that can take off, pursue an inbound target and lock onto it autonomously, without a pilot controlling the flight. Despite the automation, the system operates on a human-in-the-loop principle. The operator's role is reduced to two actions: pressing start for takeoff and issuing the intercept command that authorizes the drone to engage. The final decision to destroy a target stays with a person. LITAVR works alongside dedicated targeting software that provides real-time 2D and 3D visualization of the entire intercept. The drone is not a prototype. According to the developer, it has been in serial production and delivered to Ukrainian military units since the autumn of 2025, with a declared operational range of up to 65 km and a flight altitude above 9 km. The significance is practical: cheap, self-guiding interceptors offer Ukraine a way to counter the large numbers of Shahed drones Russia launches, without tying up a trained pilot for every intercept.
