Typhoon Dolphin, the strongest typhoon to hit China this year, traveled nearly 6,000 kilometers before making landfall over the weekend and pushed inland to flood parts of Beijing and Hubei province. Beijing's Shunyi district recorded 88.5 millimeters of rain in a single hour, and the capital braced for more than a third of its annual rainfall within 24 hours, prompting four districts to activate the highest-level emergency flood response. China's National Meteorological Center forecast up to 250 millimeters of rain for Hubei and up to 350 millimeters for neighboring Henan, which issued a red flash-flood alert. In Xiangyang, water levels at 35 reservoirs exceeded flood-control thresholds, prompting authorities to relocate 9,705 people, while dozens of construction projects and tourist sites were suspended.
