President Trump said in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt that the US could strike Iran's underground Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility, calling it a possible target for "a nice, big, fat shot right in the front door." The complex sits about a mile from Natanz, one of three Iranian nuclear sites the US military struck in June 2025. Iran began building the site in 2020, months after an above-ground enrichment plant at Natanz was damaged in a suspected sabotage attack. The facility is buried under roughly 2,000 feet of granite, and the Institute for Science and International Security estimated in a 2022 report that it could exceed 5,000 square meters.
