President Trump announced on social media on Sunday, October 4, 2026 that Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead a new government task force on artificial intelligence, the Super Intelligence Force. Trump said the group is meant to coordinate the federal government's work so that America continues to lead in super intelligence. Its other named members are FTC chair Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon chief technology officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. The task force reports to Trump and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and is to engage with AI companies, consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations and critical infrastructure providers. Clayton previously chaired the SEC. The announcement came after AI company executives signed a voluntary accord at the White House last week. Congress has not passed broad federal AI legislation.
