Study: people on GLP-1 weight-loss drugs moved less after starting treatment
A new study presented at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting found that adults on GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy (Novo Nordisk $NVO) and Mounjaro and Zepbound (Eli Lilly $LLY) moved less after starting treatment. Fitbit data from the NIH All of Us program show
Researchers analyzing Fitbit data from the NIH All of Us Research Program found that adults with obesity who lost weight on GLP-1 medications, including Ozempic and Wegovy from Novo Nordisk $NVO and Mounjaro and Zepbound from Eli Lilly $LLY, became less active after starting treatment. Average daily step counts fell from about 5,047 to 4,487 and moderate-to-vigorous activity dropped from 28 to 22 minutes a day, with the steepest declines among men and people with musculoskeletal pain. Because these drugs can strip away muscle along with fat, less movement raises concerns for long-term strength and bone health. The findings were presented at ENDO 2026 and have not yet been peer reviewed.
