Russia hits Kyiv region with hypersonic Oreshnik missile and massive drone strike (May 24 2026)
Anyone in central Ukraine just lived through one of Russia's largest combined attacks of the war. Moscow fired 90 missiles and 600 drones at Kyiv overnight Saturday. A hypersonic Oreshnik missile hit Bila Tserkva, south of the capital. Ukraine reported 87 wounded.
Russia's overnight May 24 attack on Kyiv used 90 missiles and around 600 drones in an hours-long assault. A hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missile struck Bila Tserkva, about 50 miles south of the capital and home to 200,000 people. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage in every district of Kyiv. At least 40 sites were hit, including the Foreign Ministry, an opera house, and the National Chernobyl Museum. Ukrainian emergency services counted 87 wounded in Kyiv alone, three of them children. Air defenses destroyed or jammed 549 drones and 55 missiles. Russia called the strikes retaliation for a Ukrainian drone attack on Starobilsk. Zelensky said the assault must not go unpunished.
