The UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed that cameras fitted to Royal Navy K3 Scout surveillance drones were found sending so-called heartbeat signals to a device in China. The discovery was made during a routine cyber vulnerability assessment. The 20-drone, £12 million fleet, procured under the Operation Beehive programme, has been used by UK special forces since March. The MoD says a thorough investigation found no evidence its data or systems were accessed, compromised or transmitted externally, and the Navy has now stripped the cameras of all internet connectivity. The drones are built by British contractor Kraken Technology Group, which sourced the cameras from a third-party supplier that had given assurances over their security.
