The REBOOT trial enrolled 8,505 patients across 109 hospitals in Spain and Italy and found beta blockers did not reduce death, repeat heart attack, or heart failure hospitalization in patients with preserved heart function. A European Heart Journal substudy showed women on beta blockers had a hazard ratio of 1.45 and a 2.7 percent higher absolute mortality risk over 3.7 years, with no excess risk in men.
