PayPal CEO says company open to evaluating deal offers after Stripe and Advent International $53bn unsolicited bid, Q2 earnings
PayPal $PYPL CEO Enrique Lores said the company remains 'open' to evaluating deal offers, without commenting on specifics, after Stripe and Advent International's unsolicited $53 billion bid this month. PayPal's Q2 net revenue rose 5% to $8.7 billion; net income fell 12% to $1.1
PayPal $PYPL CEO Enrique Lores told analysts on Tuesday's earnings call that the company remains committed to executing its own turnaround strategy while staying 'open' to evaluating deal offers, declining to comment on any specific proposal. Earlier this month, Stripe and Advent International submitted an unsolicited joint offer to acquire PayPal for more than $53 billion, or $60.50 per share. Lores said the board and management team have 'a clear responsibility to objectively evaluate every opportunity' presented to them against PayPal's own plan. Separately, PayPal reported second-quarter net revenue of $8.7 billion, up 5% from a year earlier, while net income fell 12% to $1.1 billion. The company raised its 2026 forecasts for adjusted profitability and transaction margin dollars, and shares rose 4.3% to $58.50. The fact that PayPal's board raised its own financial targets while its CEO simultaneously declined to rule out a sale suggests management is hedging its bets: pursuing the turnaround plan on its own merits while keeping the door open in case a buyer's price outruns what that plan alone can deliver.
