Nvidia $NVDA has agreed to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, the power infrastructure developer behind the Stargate data center campus in Texas that is backed by Blackstone $BX. An initial $2 billion investment gives Nvidia a stake of roughly 20 percent in Lancium, with Nvidia able to invest an additional $1 billion if the company meets certain thresholds, including new grid connections. The deal values Lancium's portfolio of land and power hookups at an enterprise value of around $10 billion. The capital is intended to help Lancium expand its power infrastructure buildout as it explores a potential initial public offering in 2027. The investment marks a shift in Nvidia's strategy from selling chips to data center operators toward taking direct equity stakes in the electricity infrastructure that its AI customers depend on to run those chips, as power availability has become a central bottleneck for new AI data center capacity.
