New super-Earth L 98-59 d defies planet classification with sulfur magma surface

JWST observations of planet L 98-59 d, a super-Earth 35 light-years away, broke every existing classification according to an Oxford-led team in Nature Astronomy. Surface is a permanent magma ocean, atmosphere thick with hydrogen sulfide. Researchers call it a brand new sulfur-rich planet class.
