Microsoft $MSFT has moved confidential VM support for Azure Local into public preview, according to Microsoft's own documentation. Azure Local is Microsoft's on-premises hyperconverged infrastructure product, used by organizations that need to run workloads on their own hardware rather than in the public cloud. The new preview brings AMD SEV-SNP-powered memory encryption and workload attestation, protections designed to keep data encrypted even while it's being processed, to these on-premises deployments. Until now, this level of confidential computing protection was mainly available in Microsoft's Azure public cloud. For enterprises in regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare or government, or for organizations facing data residency and sovereignty requirements, particularly relevant as EU regulators push sovereign cloud requirements, this gives a way to apply stronger hardware-based isolation to sensitive workloads without moving that data off-premises.
