A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off Sarangani province in the southern Philippines on Monday morning, recorded by PHIVOLCS just after seven thirty local time. It was the strongest quake to hit the country since 1990 and one of the most destructive in five decades. At least 45 people were killed and nearly 500 injured, a landslide in Sarangani buried 13 villagers, and 17 people remain missing. Tsunami warnings reached Indonesia, Malaysia, Palau, Japan, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea. Around 10,000 families were evacuated and more than 800,000 households lost power.
