Aging research is moving out of the lab and into the clinic: human trials of rapamycin and NAD precursors are now testing whether drugs can modulate aging biomarkers and immune function, a shift researchers describe as longevity science crossing a clinical threshold.
Research into aging is entering a new phase, one defined by clinical trials rather than lab experiments. According to a GESDA radar spotlight, the longevity field is shifting from early proof of concept work toward focused evaluation in people. Human trials of rapamycin have studied improved immune response and the modulation of aging biomarkers, while clinical work on NAD precursors such as nicotinamide riboside has examined effects on mitochondrial function and inflammation. The significance is in the change of question. For most of the past decade the debate was whether a compound did anything measurable in cells or animals. The work now underway asks something harder and more useful: whether controlled trials in humans can show a durable, repeatable benefit. That is the threshold a field has to cross before it can claim to treat aging rather than describe it.
