The largest Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak ever recorded is now a global health emergency. Bundibugyo is a strain of Ebola first identified in Uganda in 2007. Health ministries in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda declared the outbreak in May, and the WHO soon labelled it a public health emergency of international concern. As of June 11, Congo had confirmed more than 600 cases and over 100 deaths, with the eastern province of Ituri hit hardest. Africa CDC and the WHO have launched a joint response plan and are seeking hundreds of millions of dollars to contain the spread.
