Residents of Tyre are fleeing en masse as Israeli strikes hit Lebanon's fourth-largest city overnight. Lebanese health authorities report at least 16 people killed and 58 wounded across southern Lebanon since midnight, with over a dozen strikes targeting Tyre alone, including a building and a cafe. Six members of one family died in an Israeli drone strike on the Adloun Highway, the main route linking Sidon and Tyre, as they tried to flee at dawn, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. A separate drone strike hit an apartment building in Sidon, and the Lebanese army said one of its soldiers was killed in a strike near Nabatieh. Israeli fighter jets also struck a building in southern Beirut, marking the first strike on the Lebanese capital in three weeks. Hezbollah maintains a strong presence in the area. Israel issued sweeping displacement orders covering large parts of the south, including Tyre, telling residents to move north of the Zahrani River, roughly 40 km from the Israeli border. The International Committee of the Red Cross warned that forced displacement combined with continued strikes on urban centres is placing civilians at severe risk. The escalation came as US-mediated talks between Israel and Lebanon are due to resume Thursday, starting with technical discussions and moving to broader negotiations in early June. A US-brokered ceasefire that took effect last month has failed to halt the violence, with the past several days bringing some of the heaviest bombardment of the current confrontation that began in early March.
