Overnight, Iran fired missiles and drones at the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, the sharpest escalation yet in the US-Iran confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar's air defence intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles above its capital, but falling shrapnel injured three people, including one child. In Kuwait, an offshore Kuwait Oil Company drilling platform was hit by a drone, wounding one worker, and three northern border posts were targeted. The barrage followed US Central Command strikes on about 140 military targets across Iran, itself a response to an Iranian attack on a Cyprus-flagged container ship in the Strait that was set ablaze and abandoned.
