The perimeter of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, the country's only operating reactor, was struck by US projectiles as American attacks on Iran entered a second straight day, according to the deputy governor of Bushehr Province. Russia's state nuclear company Rosatom, which operates the plant, said the first six employees have already returned to the site, an indication that the reactor itself was not breached. Over the two days, the US struck military targets across five Iranian provinces, and Iran fired missiles and drones at Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and a US base in Jordan. Iran's Health Ministry reports 14 people killed and 78 injured. A working reactor on the Gulf coast sitting inside an active strike zone raises the stakes far beyond conventional military risk, since any damage to nuclear infrastructure carries contamination concerns for the entire region and hardens positions on both sides. Qatari negotiators are now in Tehran, in coordination with Washington, trying to open a path to de-escalation. Reporting via RFE/RL and the Times of Israel.
