Infostealer study finds widespread password reuse in selected logs
Researchers found password reuse in 88.99% of 170,298 victim records from selected publicly shared infostealer logs. The sample does not represent all infections or internet users.
A study released on September 24 analyzed 170,298 victim records derived from infostealer logs shared in January 2025. In this selected dataset, 151,547 records, or 88.99%, showed at least one reused password. The researchers caution that publicly shared logs do not form a representative sample of all infostealer infections or internet users. The figure describes the studied records, not a global rate of password reuse.
