Aarhus University researchers have detected GLP-1, the hormone mimicked by Wegovy and Ozempic, directly inside the joint fluid of arthritis patients - the first time this has been documented in synovial fluid. The level in the joint closely tracked the level in the blood, meaning the more circulating in the body, the more reaches the inflamed tissue. The team has not yet shown the drugs treat arthritis. Clinical trials are next. Led by Tue Wenzel Kragstrup, published in The Lancet Rheumatology.
