Germany has opened a single hub built to detect hybrid attacks early. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt opened the Gemeinsames Abwehrzentrum Hybrid, known as GAZ Hybrid, in Berlin on June 16. The center brings police authorities, the intelligence services and other agencies together to exchange information continuously rather than working in separate lanes. GAZ Hybrid is tasked with detecting and countering espionage, sabotage, disinformation, proliferation, transnational repression and state terrorism. A stated goal is identifying campaigns and attacks tied to states such as Russia at an early stage, so authorities can move to countermeasures rather than reacting after damage is done. Dobrindt described hybrid threats as a daily danger rather than an occasional one.
