First uncrewed AWACS drone takes flight - General Atomics MQ-9B carrying Saab LoyalEye AEW radar pods
General Atomics and Saab completed the worlds first flight of an uncrewed airborne early warning aircraft on May 19, 2026, using an MQ-9B drone fitted with Saabs LoyalEye AESA radar pods. The system tracks drone swarms, cruise missiles, and combat aircraft. A full capability demonstration is planned for later this year.
