A fire at Russia's Amur Gas Chemical Complex, a ten billion dollar Sibur-Sinopec joint venture, has killed seven people and left nine Chinese contractor workers missing. More than 150 people were injured.
Nine Chinese contractor workers remain missing after a fire tore through Russia's Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC), a ten billion dollar joint venture between Sibur and China's Sinopec, near Svobodny. The plant's own updated figures put the confirmed death toll at seven: six Chinese nationals and one Russian woman. 152 people were injured, 36 hospitalized. The fire broke out August 25 in a support section of the pyrolysis unit; the company says main production equipment was not damaged and a commission has been formed to investigate the cause. Search and rescue operations continued into August 26.
