European businesses and investors are watching Brussels closely as the Commission moves to accelerate its single market agenda. The plan, branded One Europe, One Market, aims to turn the bloc's fragmented internal market into a fully integrated economic space by the end of 2027. Among the concrete proposals is a system that would let a firm register digitally within roughly 48 hours and operate under the same legal conditions in every member state, reducing the friction that has long made cross-border expansion costly for smaller companies. The push builds on Mario Draghi's competitiveness report, which set out 383 recommendations to help Europe close its growth and technology gap with the United States and China. Implementation has been uneven. According to an audit of the report's progress, only 43 of those recommendations had been fully implemented, with many more still in progress or untouched. The roadmap was signed in April 2026 by the European Parliament, Council and Commission, and the European Council met on 19 June 2026 to assess progress across its priority areas, which include simplifying regulation, cutting administrative burden and removing internal barriers to trade. Reporting from Euronews and the European Commission informs this summary.
