Eli Lilly gene editing therapy cuts LDL cholesterol up to 62% in single-dose trial (NEJM)

Eli Lilly published Phase 1b results in the New England Journal of Medicine. A single infusion of VERVE-102, a gene editing therapy, cut LDL cholesterol by up to 62% with effects lasting up to 18 months.

Eli Lilly's Phase 1b Heart-2 trial of VERVE-102, an in vivo base-editing therapy that switches off the PCSK9 gene in the liver, cut LDL cholesterol by up to 62% and PCSK9 protein by up to 88% in 35 adults with familial hypercholesterolemia or premature coronary artery disease. Effects lasted up to 18 months. No serious adverse events at the highest dose. Phase 2 planned later this year. Results published in NEJM May 25 2026.
