Ebola has crossed out of Africa for the first time in this outbreak: France confirmed a case in a returning health worker deployed to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Bundibugyo outbreak, centred in Ituri province and reaching into Uganda, has now surpassed 1,100 confirmed cases and 300 deaths. Bundibugyo is a rarer type of Ebola with no previously approved vaccine or treatment. The World Health Organization has now opened the first clinical trial ever aimed at this strain, testing the monoclonal antibody MBP-134 alongside the antiviral remdesivir.
