Recent research explores how artificial intelligence can transition from basic text prediction into a more collaborative role during the writing process. Writing encompasses multiple cognitive layers, ranging from initial brainstorming to final revisions, and individual requirements shift dynamically throughout the task. Traditional writing assistants largely rely on simple autocomplete functions, offering limited utility for higher-level cognitive tasks. To address this limitation, a research team consisting of Chao Zhang, Abe Davis, Chih-Wei Chen, and Chin-Chia Hsu examined the design space for proactive thought partners.
