The lettuce, recalled July 17, was served at Taco Bell and sold at Walmart under the Marketside brand. Michigan's own health department separately counts 13,909 cases in-state using a broader case definition. Investigators traced the source through patient interviews and traceback records rather than a positive lab test on the food itself, since Cyclospora is notoriously hard to detect and grow in a lab. The CDC says the investigation remains open and case counts are still expected to rise.
