BepiColombo sheds transfer module ahead of Mercury orbit

The separation on 3 September leaves MPO and Mio continuing towards Mercury together.

ESA and LIRA report that BepiColombo's Mercury Transfer Module separated from MPO and Mio on 3 September 2026. The two orbiters continue towards Mercury together. Entering their scientific orbits remains a later stage of the mission.
