Barclays $BCS Q2 profit attributable to shareholders rose 36% to 2.26 billion pounds, pre-tax profit up 31% to 3.25 billion pounds, beating estimates. Income climbed 16% to 8.34 billion pounds, led by the investment bank. Barclays raised its income target and launched a buyback.
Barclays $BCS reported second-quarter profit attributable to shareholders up 36% to 2.26 billion pounds, with pre-tax profit rising 31% to 3.25 billion pounds, ahead of the bank's own consensus estimate of 3.12 billion pounds. Total income increased 16% to 8.34 billion pounds, driven mainly by strong results in the investment banking division, even as Barclays UK, private banking and the US consumer business fell short of analyst expectations. The bank's cost-to-income ratio improved to 54% from 59%, and earnings per share rose 43% to 16.7 pence. Barclays raised its full-year 2026 group income target to roughly 31.5 billion pounds from 31 billion, announced a share buyback of up to 1 billion pounds, and declared a first-half dividend of 5.9 pence per share, up from 3 pence the year before. The bank also flagged about 450 million pounds in additional costs for the second half of the year. The results extend a run of strong quarters for European investment banking arms as market volatility continues to drive trading revenue.
