Anthropic reports phage system with CRISPR-like repeats
Anthropic says Claude identified a previously uncharacterized bacteriophage system linking a known reverse transcriptase to CRISPR-like repeats. Its function remains unknown.
Anthropic reported on September 23 that Claude identified a previously uncharacterized bacteriophage system connecting an already known reverse transcriptase, a partner gene and a CRISPR-like DNA repeat array. Anthropic says early laboratory experiments detected short RNAs expressed from the repeat array. The researchers have not established what the system does, and the linked findings are a preprint that has not been peer reviewed.
