Anthropic, Australia's Macquarie Asset Management and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC announced Monday a new joint venture called Theseus Infrastructure, built to develop, operate and lease AI data centers for Anthropic's Claude models, according to a joint statement from the companies. Funds managed by Macquarie and GIC will own the platform and fund the majority of the equity for each project, with an initial focus on US data centers, though the partners said they will identify new sites as the project develops. Anthropic has committed to cover electricity price increases that consumers near the facilities may otherwise face, extending a pledge it made earlier this year. The venture comes as Anthropic works toward bringing on 10 gigawatts of computing power over the next several years, a buildout previously reported to cost in the hundreds of billions of dollars. The deal follows a separate announcement the same day of a $500 billion Nvidia-linked financing alliance with major Wall Street firms, underscoring how much outside capital is now being funneled into AI data center buildouts rather than carried directly on AI labs' own balance sheets.
