American Airlines $AAL has selected SpaceX Starlink as its next-generation in-flight Wi-Fi provider, the carrier announced on May 26, 2026. Starlink will be installed on more than 500 narrowbody Airbus A320-family aircraft, including A319, A320, A321, A321neo, and A321XLR jets. Installation begins in the first quarter of 2027. American's Boeing fleet will continue with its existing mix of Viasat and Panasonic providers. At the end of the first quarter, 885 of American's 1,022 mainline aircraft were narrowbody jets. United, Southwest Airlines, and Alaska Airlines have also selected Starlink. Delta announced in March that it would use Amazon Leo for in-flight Wi-Fi for hundreds of jets starting in 2028.
