According to The Information, the companies are moving away from a compute-hour arrangement toward token-based pricing, which means Amazon pays in proportion to how much the models are actually used rather than a fixed rate for capacity. The expanded relationship carries up to roughly $33 billion in total potential Amazon commitment when earlier rounds are included. In exchange, Anthropic has pledged to spend more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services infrastructure over the next decade and to draw on up to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity running largely on Amazon's own Trainium and Graviton chips rather than Nvidia hardware. The detail that matters for the wider market is the direction of pricing power: token-based terms tie Amazon's outlay to Claude's commercial success, which rewards Anthropic as usage scales and gives the model maker more leverage over one of its largest backers and customers.
