An AI-designed universal coronavirus vaccine candidate, pEVAC-PS, cleared a phase 1 trial in 39 healthy adults aged 18 to 50, proving safe with no serious side effects. Developed by the University of Cambridge and spin-out DIOSynVax, it was delivered as a needle-free DNA vaccine and triggered immune responses to SARS-CoV-2, SARS, and bat coronaviruses with spillover potential. Published in the Journal of Infection; a larger phase 2 trial is planned.
