The ratio of GPUs to CPUs in AI data centers is moving from roughly 4-to-8 GPUs per CPU toward closer to 1:1, or even higher in some deployments. The shift reflects a broader change in what drives semiconductor demand: the global chip market is forecast to reach $1.29 trillion in 2026, a 52.8% increase, with AI infrastructure, memory, and hyperscaler capital spending as the main drivers rather than consumer electronics, which historically led the industry. DRAM revenue alone is projected to nearly triple this year to $418.6 billion, driven by demand for high-bandwidth memory and DDR chips from hyperscalers building out AI infrastructure.
